In this course, we will talk about transracial adoption with an adult transracial adoptee. The instructor will be Angela Tucker, a black woman adopted from foster care to white parents. She is the author of the book You Should Be Grateful: Stories of Race Identity and Transracial Adoption. She founded the Adoptee Mentoring Society and has mentored over 200 adoptees.

This course covers the following learning objectives:

  • Explain the meaning of "adoptee centrism."
  • Explain how to share the hard parts of their adoption story with the adopted child.
  • List the five dimensions of racial identity formation common with adopted people.
  • Explain "white privilege by osmosis."
