In this course we will cover converstations that adoptive parents should have with their teens and young adults. The instructor will be Katie Naftzger, an LCSW, an adult adoptee, and the author of Parenting in the Eye of the Storm: The Adoptive Parent’s Guide to Navigating the Teen Years. She also has a course for adoptive parents: The Four Paths To Securing The Relationship With Your Adopted Teen Or Young Adult.

This course covers the following learning objectives:

  • Identify two conversations that parents should be having with their youth about adoption.
  • List three goals that parents should understand when having converstaions with their youth.
  • Identify the primary goal of an adopted teen during a conversation related to mental health.
  • Understand the need to have conversations around race with your transracially adopted teen.

Creating a Family offers this evidence-based, trauma-informed workshop to help parents recognize the signs and symptoms of prenatal exposure and train them on techniques that work best with these kids.
