In this course, you will learn what a host program is and how to prepare to become a host family. The instructor is Misty Lucas, an International Program Director at Gladney Center for Adoption. We will cover the training and processes host families undergo, what host families should understand about trauma, and what the adoption process may look like if hosting turns to adoption.

This course includes the following learning objectives:

  • Explain what is meant by advocating for the child.
  • List 2 ways to advocate for a host child.
  • Explain why it is important for host families to understand how trauma impacts children.
  • Explain the typical process if you decide to adopt a child you have hosted.
