What issues should parents think about when adopting a relative (niece, cousin, sibling) from abroad. In this course, we talk with Mary Beth King, who has a Master of Science in Social Administration and is Frank Adoption Center’s Executive Director, and with Katie Schultz, an International Adoption Specialist with Madison Adoption Associates.
This course covers the following learning objectives:
- Explain two issues to consider when you change the relationship from aunt or cousin to mom and dad when adopting your relative from abroad.
- Discuss why it is important to understand the impact of trauma and loss on the child being adopted.
- List one way to help families help the child navigate two different identities as an immigrant and as an American.
