Ethical Considerations and Child-Buying in Intercountry Adoptions
No guide exists that lists all the potentially unethical situations that can arise in intercountry adoption or the “correct” or “ethical” way an Adoption Service Provider and its staff should address them. In this course, we have covered information on prevalence and concerns with child trafficking and some ethical considerations that may happen in intercountry adoption and provided the opinion of one professional on how to handle them. This professional is not providing legal advice or counsel and is not promising that her suggested approach to these ethical issues would be the best one for all situations or in all countries.
Before recommending this course for training requirements under the Hague Treaty or implementing legislation, Adoption Service Providers should take this course to confirm that they agree with how this professional suggests handling the ethical situations addressed and should use this course as a starting point for discussion with their staff on ethical considerations in intercountry adoption and the prohibition on child-buying.
