In this course, we will talk about the six classes of psychotropic medications, what they treat, and how to administer them for maximum effectiveness. We will also discuss what foster, adoptive, and kinship parents can do to ensure their child is on the needed medications. The instructor will be Dr. Adam Langenfeld, a Developmental Pediatrician at Children's Minnesota Hospital. He also has a Ph.D. in chemistry.

Participants will be able to:

  • List 3 mental health issues that can be successfully treated with psychotropic medications.
  • List 2 symptoms of anxiety in children.
  • List 3 common side effects of psychotropic medications.
  • Explain a parent's role in advocating for the least amount of medication needed.
