In this course we will cover the risk factors social workers and adoption workers should think about when assisting with domestic adoption. The instructors will be Dr. Lindsay Terrell and James Fletcher Thompson. Dr. Terrell is a pediatrician at Duke University Medical Center and an Assistant Professor in their Department of Pediatrics. She is the clinical director of Duke’s Foster Care Clinic.
James Fletcher Thompson is a South Carolina attorney with extensive experience in adoption. He is a frequent lecturer throughout the country on adoption and child welfare issues, and he is the author of a book published by the South Carolina Bar entitled South Carolina Adoption Law and Practice.
This course covers the following learning objectives:
- Identify three common risk factors in domestic infant adoption.
- List three significant legal risks for adoptive parents to be aware of.
- List three risks to a pregnancy that does not receive prenatal care.
